HSEnergy Group has officially switched off the gas at its head office in Burgess Hill, marking a major milestone in our journey toward full electrification and energy independence. The entire building now runs on clean, renewable electricity powered by our solar and battery system, supported by AI-powered energy optimisation technology.
For us, this isn’t just a technical upgrade. It’s a statement of intent that shows what is possible when innovation meets commitment. As advocates of electrification in homes and businesses, we wanted to demonstrate the benefits first-hand by transforming our own offices into a model of future-led energy efficiency.
Powered by the Sun, Managed by AI
Our solar system, installed in late 2023, generates approximately 1000kW of clean energy per month which is stored in 15kWh of battery capacity. Through our AI-powered YellowGrid energy optimisation and trading platform, the system learns and adapts to our energy usage patterns, storing electricity when it’s cheapest and releasing it when it’s most valuable. This intelligent management means our office operates more efficiently throughout the year while reducing our reliance on the grid.
This setup is already saving around £2500 to £3000 annually on electricity costs, proving that renewable energy isn’t just good for the planet, it’s smart business too.
Heating the Future
To complete our transition, we replaced traditional gas heating with advanced far-infrared heating film discreetly installed above the ceiling tiles. The system provides a comfortable, even warmth that feels more natural than conventional radiators. We’ve also installed an 80L Air-Sourced Hot Water Cylinder from Project Curv, ensuring all our heating and hot water needs are met using clean electricity.
These technologies work seamlessly with our solar and battery systems, creating a fully integrated, zero-gas environment that runs efficiently throughout the year.
Leading by Example
Neil Mitchell, Managing Director of HSEnergy Group, said:
“At HSEnergy, we believe in leading by example. If we’re encouraging homeowners and businesses to electrify, we need to show that we live by those same principles. Switching off the gas was the final step in proving that a modern office can be powered, heated and managed entirely by renewable energy.
A Vision for Every Home and Business
This transition is more than an internal achievement. It’s a blueprint for what’s possible across the UK. As energy prices rise and sustainability becomes essential, electrification supported by smart energy optimisation offers a pathway to lower costs, greater resilience and genuine energy independence.
